Appropriate riding attire is required. Riders must wear closed-toe shoes with a hard sole (preferably riding boots with a small heel), but sneakers will do for your first few lessons.  Also, wear long pants or jeans for your lesson.  Shorts or capri pants are not permitted.  If you do not have a helmet, one will be provided for you.

As you progress with your riding, you will be expected to wear your own riding helmet, Kentucky Jodhpurs (riding pants), riding boots and gloves.  Please check with Kelly before purchasing any attire.

Riding instruction is available seven days a week by appointment.  We have various openings for lessons in the mornings, afternoons or evenings, during the week and on weekends. Contact us to arrange a convenient time for your riding lesson.

Private riding lessons are approximately one hour in length, including appropriate grooming and tacking/untacking and cooling out time.  This time is an estimation, as some sessions will run over an hour while others are under an hour.

Plan to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled lesson time so that you are prepared to get your horse out, groomed, tacked, and ready to ride

Here at Sugar Valley, riding instruction is offered to students, ages 3 and up, including adults! We specialize in a style of English riding, called Saddle Seat, but also offer Hunt Seat riding instruction.  Our primary focus is on a particular breed of horse, the American Saddlebred.  Due to their versatile nature, high intelligence and excellent temperament, American Saddlebreds are used in a variety of riding disciplines and make wonderful horses for new riders.

Our lesson program is designed to teach all levels of riders the basic principles of good horsemanship, with safety as the first priority. Lessons are taught year-round on safe school horses, from former World Champion show horses to the calmest beginner mounts.
